IMG_2209At this stage, as I am waiting for some rivets to arrive, I am working on some pieces that I intend upon selling at Ragnorok this year. Three sets of spaulders and a spangenhelm. While I hope to get more than these done for stock, it is certainly a start. At this stage I have cut out all of the pieces that I need for the a fore mentioned pieces and have already rough formed them. Further, I have started the planishing of the Spangenhelm and begun to get the four major plates formed to fit correctly. The pattern that I used for this piece comes from the Armour Archive, a highly recommended website for any that want to begin creating medieval plate armour.

On reflection, I am thankful that I had the foresight to create / collect many of the tools that I use for creating these pieces. From the forming hammers and stakes that I created while working on my undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University, to the Belt Sander and the half oxy tank that I use for dishing that I was able to acquire while working at Medwedeff Forge & Desgin.  If you are fortunate to be able to attend this, or any University that has a blacksmithing program, make sure you keep an eye to the future when you are no longer able to use their facilities.
